Budget 2019 Highlights you must know whether you are a college student, job aspirant or a young working professional as this budget has some thing for everyone.

The 2019 Budget was presented  by the Hon’ble Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Budget is filled with various initiatives and schemes aimed at making India a USD 5 Trillion economy. This article summarises some of the highlights of the Budget for your quick reference.

Income Tax
  • Taxpayers can use Aadhar and PAN interchangeably. Hence, any person having Aadhar can file income tax return without having to obtain PAN. 
  • Corporate tax rate of 25% will be now be applicable for companies with a turnover of upto INR 400 crores. 
  • Income tax will not be applicable for persons having an income of less than Rs.5 lakhs per annum. 
  • 2% TDS will be levied if INR 1 Crore is withdrawn in cash from a single bank account in a year.
  • Income tax assessment will be done in a completely electronic mode with no face-to-face interaction. 
  • No charges or MDR will be applicable on digital modes of payment.
  • Large businesses will be mandatorily required to provide digital payment options. 
  • Income tax deduction will be provided for person purchasing eVehicles.
 

Goods and Services Tax

  • Taxpayers with an annual turnover of less than INR 5 Crores can now file quarterly GST returns.
  • A completely automated GST refund module will be implemented soon to streamline GST refunds.
  • An electronic invoice system soon to be introduced will further streamline GST compliance.

MSME

  • INR 350 Crores has been allocated for 2% interest subvention for every GST-registered MSME on fresh/ incremental loans.
  • Pension for shopkeepers and retailers with an annual turnover of less than INR 1.5 Crore will be launched under the Pradhan Mantri Karma Yogi Maan Dhan Scheme.
  • Pension benefits will be extended to over 3 Crores of retailers, traders and shopkeepers under the Pradhan Mantri Karam Yogi Maan Dhan Scheme.
  • In order to improve the technology of MSME and similar industries, Technology Business Incubators and Livelihood Business Incubators will be set up under the ASPIRE Scheme. This has been proposed in order to develop and train 75,000 skilled entrepreneurs in the Agro-rural Sector.
  • The Central Government will create a payment platform for MSMEs in order to file bills and make payments on the MSME platform itself. This will be implemented to cut down payment time for every user.
  • Social stock exchange for the listing of social enterprises and voluntary organisations.

IIM Placement Salary always draws attention not only in MBA aspirants community but in peers and family friends group also. It is a known fact that placement package offered to individual is personal information, but it is this news which becomes headlines always.

One of the old IIM student who has graduated this year, shared whatever information he got during campus placement.

I have tried to make an attempt to put the companies and roles along with the CTC who visited the campus during laterals  or finals. It could be safely said that the median salary would be around 19 LPA with the average being slightly higher. For many of the companies, I could not gather data. Also, PPOs have been excluded and hence could not include companies like P&G, AT Kearney, Uber, Reckitt Benckiser, Colgate Palmolive, ITC, Nestle, Goldman Sachs, etc who only came for summers. CTC Includes fixed component and may include variable pay/joining bonus/ESOP etc. The list doesn’t cover all names and the package might be slightly more or less but overall the data is 90% accurate.

Campus Placement Interview is one of the strong memory which last forever.  Gurpriya Sahni shared her success story and winning interview tips which helped her crack Infosys Interview during campus placement.

I had an amazing experience in Infosys. The experience with this organisation has prepared me for the challenges ahead in life. But to land up as a system engineer in Infosys was also a challenging task for which I fought tooth and nail.

So the journey started like this:

I was a 4th-year student in a college in Punjab. And Infosys was a promising recruiter over there. So as all other years, Infosys was again on our campus.

We had a 2-day process: On the first day, we had an aptitude test, that entailed aptitude and verbal ability questions. It was a screening round; not everyone proceeded to the second round.

On the 2nd day, we had interviews scheduled for the students who successfully went through the first round. And I was one of those successful students.

Though I don’t have good memory retention, here’s a transcript of my interview as far as I can recollect:

Me (knocking and sliding the door): Can I come in?

Interviewer: Yes, sure!

Me (in a nervous state): Good morning sir.

Interviewer: A very good morning. So, how are you?

Me: I am excited as well as nervous.

Interviewer ( with a smiling face): Why excited and why nervous?

Me: Excited because I am sitting here for an interview and nervous because I am sitting here for an interview ( I am a sarcastic person, but I don’t know why I said this during my interview)

Interviewer ( started laughing which assured me that he was not there to devour me): Oh, I liked your statement.

[So, hereafter interview was more of a conversation. SinceI had a computer engineering background, he probed me for my technical know-how and asked me questions on computer languages like C, C++.Admittedly, my interview had a blend of technical and HR questions. I was asked that being from a business family why I want to get into a job, or why I can’t be an entrepreneur – to which I asked that first I have to equip my knowledge that how the business world works, what are the skills needed to lead a business and so on…]

  • The start should be excellent. The first impression does matter a lot.
  • Be a personality who can transform an interview into a healthy discussion. If you are there for a job, the interviewer is also there for a future employee.
  • Brush up your communication skills. While speaking, you should be flawless.
  • If you commit a mistake, beg a pardon and keep going. After all, to err is human.
  • You should have a decent knowledge of the profile for which you are getting interviewed.
  • And, the most important thing is that you should know yourself inside out. What is your five-year plan or 10-year plan? What’s your hobby? Places you will like to visit?Means get acquainted with anything and everything about you. You can only explain yourself to an interviewer if you are aware of

Robotics, one of the highly buzzword especially in tech world. How will it impact career opportunity in coming days as every one is ?

We are living in an era of capitalisation, we are riding on the digital wave,and undoubtedly, robotic automation is a significant part of this digital wave. Where machines are replacing every manual work, that day is not far when there will be the use of robotics all over for work that’s repetitive and bulky.

The biggest question is -Will it be a good change?

Yes, why not! We will have the skilful resources available for the work that is non-repetitive but unique. In addition to that, we will require a whole set of the workforce in the building, training and maintenance of these robots. So, I will not second guess my statement while saying that the scope of career in robotics in the coming decades is very high. To substantiate my statement, the following are some latest examples of the robotic invention:

The next part to focus on is how to make a career in robotics? You will think that “ do I need to be a computer engineer for that?” or “ Shall I pursue my career in mechanical engineering?”

Or someone will say “the field of robotics requires a combination of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer programming/computer science skills”.And after this, you will be surely planning to drop your idea of being in this line of robotic automation.

But wait, let me clarify on the above statements:

Let’s have a bit of detailed analysis. To build a robot for a specific task, what’s needed: Data collection. You need to know for what purpose the robot is required and what will be tasks expected from a robot. All this data is necessary. Then comes the role of all the engineers who will be working with electronic circuits, sensors, actuators, materials and using their coding skills, languages likeC, C++, algorithms, machine learning etc. Once it’s done, and we have a robot ready to get deployed, we will test its performance.  And if it clears all the test cases, we will release our robot into the market for use.

So, in the building of a robot, we need a training department, a testing team, a whole bunch of engineers who will look after the software and the hardware part. And after the deployment, one team will come into existence that’s the maintenance team.And all these teams, departments and engineers will fetch a high amount of salaries.

There are many options in a particular stream of robotics. If you are interested and willing to pursue a career in robotics, go in depth to know precisely in which domain you are interested. And accordingly, plan your studies. Robotics is undoubtedly an upcoming trend in business as well as in education.

SEBI Grade A Interview is the last obstacle between a candidate and highly reputed government job SEBI Grade A Officer. Cracking SEBI Grade A Interview is a tough task itself but securing AIR 1 in final results is a remarkable feat in itself.

Rajendran Sundar Raj, who topped the final merit list and secured All India Rank 1 in SEBI Grade A results declared in Feb 2019 shared his interview experience and the cracking tricks which helped him to become a winner.

How you prepared for SEBI Grade A written exam ?

Mains (Phase-II) is the crucial part of this examination. If one can score 25-30 marks more than the cut-off in Mains, he/she can easily make it to the final list even if the interview doesn’t go on well. The important thing to remember in this exam is that the number of questions asked in Economics and Social issues (ESI), Finance and Management (FM) and Securities markets is very less (only 100 questions in total) when compared to the syllabus and the list of books. So, its important to go through the previous year question papers, analyze them and pick out the important topics and finish them first. Revision and Practice are the key to success and enroll in as many test series as possible for Mains.

How much time you spend for preparing for written exam on a daily basis?

Since I was working, I used to spend 3-4 hours per day for preparation (Including prelims and mains). On weekdays, I do not read new topics but keep revising the topics already covered. I used Saturdays and Sundays to learn new topics and tried to revise them the following week.

Generally, these Govt. examination interviews go on for a couple of months and the panel will be tired of hearing the same answer again and again. Therefore,its better to have your own unique answer to the expected questions rather than copying someone else answer. Also, your next question will depend on the technical words/jargons or examples you have used in your previous answer. So along with the answers, be prepared to answer the counter questions that will be thrown at you.

Tell me why Engg., and then SEBI? How will your Engg. Knowledge help you in this job?

Engineering is a professional degree and generally those who complete it are expected to choose a job in that stream itself. However, there are jobs like SEBI Grade ‘A’ (Asst. Manager) which are Generalist in nature and anyone with the right knowledge, skill and attitude can take up. Since it is a decision-making job, the skills which I acquired in Engg viz., Analytical thinking, Problem solving etc. will also be useful along with my knowledge of Finance and Stock market.

Why did you get interested in civil services?

                Every job has two parts: i) What one can bring onto that job and ii) What can the job bring out of a person. I think Civil Services is strong in both the aspects. It helps a person to contribute immensely to the society while at the same time it constantly challenges a person and brings the best out of him.

Your strengths and weakness

Strengths: Adaptability is my biggest strength and I have overseen three projects in my current posting within a span of two and half years. I’m a quick learner and that has helped me in adapting to the different roles quite easily.

Weakness: Effective time management was my weakness initially. I used to be very productive closer to the deadline but tend to be laid back when the deadline is far away. So, to overcome this, I started using timers (say 15 min) to divide my time into smaller blocks with closer deadlines. This has helped me in managing time effectively and has also increased my efficiency.

What is the most important factor to Ace an Interview ?

If I have to pick two, it would be confidence and communication skill. Unless one puts across what he/she has in the mind properly, the panel will not be impressed. Hence communication skill is vital to crack an interview. Communication skill doesn’t mean being a master of English grammar or vocabulary. It means the ability to impress the panel with your clarity of thought and expression. A simple answer without any grammatical mistake will do.

How should a person prepare for the Interviews ?

It is important to be aware of yourself – what your goal is, what have you done to achieve it, your interests, your strengths and weaknesses etc. I think these are part of the HR questions which every interviewer asks an interviewee. Unless you have a satisfactory answer for these questions, your knowledge or your confidence or anything else doesn’t matter.

Its better to be ready with answers for your profile as soon as you graduate out of the college and start practising them. Preparation, practice and guidance from experts are the key things to excel in an interview.

Practice answers to the questions in front of the mirror and give at least 2-3 quality mock interviews before the actual interview. Do you think Interview preparation matters?

100% Yes. I know a candidate who has scored 225 marks in Mains (32 more than the cut-off) and yet missed the final cut-off by just 0.75 marks. He didn’t have a great interview and so he couldn’t make it to the final list. There is another candidate who scored just 203 in mains (10 more than the cut-off) but made it to the final list by scoring 12.5/15 in the interview. So as you can see, Interview is vital and can be a deciding factor. Ignore it at your own peril.

What Interviewers look for in a Candidate ?

Self-awareness, Confidence, Clarity in thought and expression. The way you answer a question matters more than what you answer. Be confident while answering but at the same time avoid arrogance. Be humble in accepting your mistakes and show inclination to learn new things and to adapt to new environment, roles etc. Most importantly, be honest with your answers and the interviewers will generally like you.
