Architecture Career seems to be for people who enjoy creativity and design. Career in Architecture is attractive, lucrative, and has lots of potential in terms of development. The architectural degree is designed in such a way so that it fulfills the educational component of professional certifying bodies.

Architects are the magicians behind the magic of aesthetically and beautifully designed buildings. What today is considered as one of the most chic professions is one that has definitely come a long way.

Career in architecture is not only well paying but also gets the creative juices flowing. One needs to keep the requirements the client or target audience in mind and in the process mold each idea according to their needs and requirements.

Architects design structures including houses, apartment complexes, shopping centers, office buildings, and factories. In addition to considering their physical appearance, they also make sure these structures will be functional, safe and suit the needs of the people who will use them.

Architect concentrates how to make people living simple and comfortable ranging from middle class to upper class & provide them shelter and housing with luxury and style. As architects study planning and designing of building and structures, a mental inclination and orientation is necessary to move forward in the career of Architecture.


Eligibility/ Qualification needs:

Most of the Architecture colleges in India offer education in Architecture at undergraduate level and students with Mathematics at +2 level are preferred. Preparation for an All India Entrance Exam can be started soon after 10th Class.

If the student is interested in taking his career forward, eligibility for postgraduate programmes will be on the basis of a bachelor’s degree in (B.E/B.Tech) or any other equivalent branches of engineering. The duration for this course is two years.

Various colleges offer undergraduate course in B.Arch. which lasts for 5 years. The selection is done through an entrance exam conducted by the Council of Architecture throughout India.



Although in the beginning of your career you would be expected to understand the practical aspects of being on the job and strike the right balance of listening to the client and coming out with a design both aesthetically and practically correct. You will have the option of working with construction companies, builders, independently, consultancies, and many other options as well.

You can also work independently and earn occupation through consultancy charges that depends upon your skills, profile and experience. As an Architect, your job is not limited to design corporate workplace but also you have to design houses, colonies, apartments, hospitals, hotels, stadium, shopping complexes, schools, industrial complexes, etc.



Various private and government colleges and universities in India offer B.Arch course which lasts for 4 years. The fee of the course depends a lot upon the reputation of the institute or aid from the government.

The government aided institutes or colleges charge nominal fee from students, which can be any amount in the range of 1,60000-2,30000, while in private institute, students are asked a hefty fee between 2,00000-3,50000. The fee does not include expenses incurred in the form of hostel charges, library fees, etc.



Aga Khan Foundation offers a limited number of scholarships for students of Architecture who are willing to pursue higher education. The scholarship is given to the outstanding students from India who have no other means of financing their studies. Applications are invited once a year in June or July and students with excellent academic records, genuine financial need, admission to a reputable institution of higher learning, etc. only are eligible for the scholarship.

60 National Overseas Scholarships are offered to students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, etc. US$6,600 per year is the amount which is paid to qualified candidates doing the Master’s.


Demand in the industry:

According to current demand for architects, India needs more than 10,000 trained professionals in various government and private organizations. Whereas qualified architects coming from top notch architecture colleges are placed in various real estate developing companies, the government jobs are filled by various examinations conducted each year at the national level.

International market particularly the USA, Dubai, Australia offer attractive career for architecture professionals.

Ambitious architects have higher job prospects in architecture companies, provided they are willing to change their location and do not have preferences in terms of work location as real estate companies have become global and have global operations.
