Share at least 3 Questions asked and your answers during MICA Interview.
1) Coming from an IT background, why do you want a sudden switch to Communications?
Ans: Sir/Mam, I remember the words of Nathaniel Hawthorne,”Words-so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, but how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them”.Such is the power of effective communication which is the most valued and influential asset in a socio-corpoarte arena. The ‘what one communicates’ is invariably overshadowed by ‘how one communicates’ and for me it is the basis of planning and co-ordination required to meet the organizational goals.Driven by this line of thought, my interests towards pursuing communications as a specialization blossomed.
2) Could you please explain why have you specified “Liquor” as your dislike?
Ans: Sir/Mam, Liquor is something that I disliked since my childhood. I have seen lives getting ruined and shattered because of Alcohol being the root problem. My aunt’s maid who was struggling to meet both ends was shattered and devastated when her husband’s health deteriorated because of excessive consumption of liquor beyond multiple warnings. The bad part was that she had a 3 month old baby which is now deprived of father’s love and now she stands all alone. I have never encountered or come across any success story because of consumption of alcohol and moreover I am against the opinion of those who consider consumption of liquor for being social or relieving stress. If you want to gel up with people in a social gathering or get devoid of your worries, you do not need alcohol as a crutch. But in no ways does that mean I disrespect those who consume liquor; It’s just not my cup of tea.
3) Why and What can you bring to the table?(How can you add value to MICA) ?
Ans: MICA as a brand calls itself as a “school of ideas” which caters to people coming from multiple backgrounds, diverse cultures, languages and thoughts. I see it is an amalgamation of imagination and creativity ( reference to the unique subjects and pedagogy adopted). I, being a polyglot with a strong fervor for languages and music, can very well appreciate its nuances and beauty . Therefore,I am in look out for a place where I can pursue my interests -a virtue which I see in MICA. I seek to learn and interact with people having varied expertise, getting to know and share ideas openly and be approached for out-of- the box thinking. I believe I can bring in new elements to table, in this school of ideas, diversity in terms of language and thoughts. I earnestly look forward to pursue specialization in Brand management.
What is the most important factor to Ace an Interview ?
For me, the most important factor is CONFIDENCE while answering the questions put by the interviewer. This is so because it shows how much conviction I have and how strong I am in my opinions and views.I should impart in the mind of an interviewer that I am very much confident about the job profile and have the knowledge and skills which are needed for the job. Ultimately, it is the self confidence of the interviewee which helps the interviewer gain trust in him/her about hiring him/her for that job profile.
How should a person prepare for the Interviews ?
For an interview, it is very essential for the interviewee to research and know about the organization, if it is a job interview or about the role offered and expectations. He/She should read the JD very carefully and compare his/her skills and qualifications required for it. Also brainstorming with some expert( Friends/ Professors/ Seniors) is recommended. The best way to prepare for an interview is to follow preparation groups and websites in social media (Which helped for me a lot), browsing through the question pattern asked previously and preparing responses for the necessary ones well in advance should help. Also it is very necessary to pay attention to non-verbal communication, body language and gestures used while answering questions which can be assessed on individual basis.
