Placement Interviews

Placement Interviews news are always exciting if it comes from IIMs.  So all the excitements and noise about Placement Interviews at IIMs finally came to an end as IIMians aced their summer placements interviews confidently as always and grabbed their summer internship assignments with their Dream Companies.

The summer internship placements that commenced in October, November and December 2016, in all the IIM institutes of India created a buzz among the students striving to get placed into the top firms in India.

Firstly, the most quintessentially striking moment was with Amazon being a top recruiter in IIM Ahmedabad. Amazon ranked first in the list as they made a whopping number of 21 offers. The placements at IIM Ahmedabad were divided into 3 major groups wherein they were interviewed and recruited into around 17 varied sectors and job profiles of their preference. Other than Amazon, which was the most popular recruiter of the placement program, there were several firms and renowned companies that followed the trend. While Hindustan Unilever was the highest recruiter for the Consumer Goods sector with an impressive number of 10 offers, Aditya Birla and Tata Administrative services stood at par as joint recruiters with 20 offers in total in the sector of General Management. Other well-known firms such as Microsoft and Vedanta offered 6 offers and 7 offers respectively. The former ranked the charts of recruits for the Consumer tech, while the latter emphasized its placements on Management.

As each of these firms was assigned to various cohorts, they were classified and allotted to different clusters that were previously formed. There were 130 students who were endowed with this opportunity of applying for and getting recruited and placed by their dream companies. While on the contrary, 5 students chose to work under the able guidance of Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) of IIM Ahmedabad on their entrepreneurial ideas and ventures.

Secondly, in IIM Bangalore, management, consulting and the FMCG firms were observed to be the top recruiters. As compared to IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore witnessed thrice as many students who aspired to get placed by the companies. There were around 150 companies who visited the campus in pursuit of prospective professionals who would be an asset to their venture. Ranking straight after Amazon in IIM Ahmedabad, Accenture offered 20 recruits, followed by The Boston Consulting Group, AT Kearney, McKinsey & Co, Bain & Company and Strategy& Co with 15, 13, 10, 8 and 7 offers respectively and thus they paved their way to be tagged as the major recruiters this year in IIM Bangalore.

While most of the offers were claimed in the management and consultation sector, the sales and marketing, and the telecom sectors were not too far behind. Aditya Birla, Procter and Gamble, Hindustan Unilever, Johnson and Johnson, Mondelez, Asian Paints, Airtel and Vodafone were also seen offering from 3 to 9 recruits. The other companies that were highly prominent in the summer internship placements in IIM Bangalore were international banks such as Barclays, Citibank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JP Morgan, Deutsche Bank, Development Bank of Singapore and Standard Chartered. Lastly, e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Shopclues too graced the recruitment process with a large number of placements to offer (around 20 offers).

Thirdly, IIM Calcutta was one of the fortunate institutes to have managed to bag a placement offering a mammoth amount of 4.5 lakhs INR per month. The consultancy sector was the most popular sector in IIM Calcutta with almost a quarter of the aggregate 460 offers. The most well renowned companies of this domain that were seen were McKinsey & Co, Bain & Co, Boston Consulting Group, A.T. Kearney and Accenture Strategy. Accenture Strategy was the most endowing recruiter that offered the largest number of placements. Additionally, firms like Tata Administrative Services, Aditya Birla Group, and Mahindra & Mahindra ranked next with around 14 percent of the offers, with Aditya Birla Group in the lead. However, e-commerce organisations failed to place themselves into the limelight, while the others managed to render the summer internship placement programme a success.

Fourthly, as a result of the summer internship placements that took place in IIM Indore, it witnessed a direct hike of 15 percent in the stipend as compared to the preceding year. While the average stipend offered was INR 1.04 lakhs, Boston Consulting Group offered the highest stipend amounting INR 3 lakhs. In addition to the various first timers, several banks and companies of the finance sector had a total of 30 offers to place. These firms constituted Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs and J.P.
